Anyway, on with the show!

2 days in Paris |
[24 Mar 2008|12:23pm] |
It's been quite quiet here so I was wondering if anyone wanted to talk about 2 days in Paris, Julie Delpy's film which is very much in the same vein? Personally I totally adored it, I think she's a fantastic screenwriter, actress and director. The film is really hilarious and interesting. I loved the editing as well.
What are other people's thoughts?

Peace and Respect...
I'm new to livejournal, this is actually the first community I've joined. I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate through this site.
Before Sunrise is my favorite movie. After watching it the 100th time you notice even more details you love about the movie. Like the artwork Julie Deply describes as "transitory" and says that she stared at it for 30 minutes once, and that "the background is almost more important than the people in it". This was very interesting artwork that I was totally unfamiliar with. What is it called? Anybody know? I was reflecting on that piece of art, and often there are so many people we pass by in our daily lives, and don't notice so much... it is as if they fade into the background of their environment, "transitory". Also, we ourselves sometimes may feel so isolated or distanced from the minds and hearts of others that we feel like blending into a background. That's why I thought that artwork was so beautiful.

Something I've always wondered... |
[02 Oct 2007|11:29am] |
Do you guys think that Jesse's wife in "Before Sunset" is the same girl he broke up with in Madrid in "Before Sunrise"?
(She's present only in dialogue, of course...but you have to admit...she's pretty important to the story.)
One reason I think it might be the same person is because he says they "started dating in college."

Hello. I am new to this community. I am also new to LiveJournal. This community seems great! Before Sunrise and Before Sunset changed my entire film experience. Words cannot describe how much I love these two beautiful films. *Speechless* It leaves me feeling rather empty because of not experiencing something so beautiful like it...*sighs*

It just now occurred to me that some people in this community might be interested in a piece of Before Sunrise/Sunset fanfiction that I wrote for the 2006 while we tell of yuletide treasure fanfiction challenge. It's a challenge in which people are assigned to write each other's requests, and I wrote this story for Windrunner.

Hi everyone, I just joined the commmunity after having loved Before Sunrise for seven years. I watched it for the first time late one night as I was packing for my first visit to the college that I would eventually attend. Naturally, the combination of nighttime, the film itself, and my thoughts about my adventurous future combined to make that first viewing experience magical, and I've been in love ever since.
Anyway, I also wanted to make a present of a movie recommendation, something I think that every Sunrise/Sunset fan will also adore: A Little Romance. The film is about Lauren, an American girl and Daniel, a French boy, who meet in Paris and fall in love (see the similarities?). For me, in many ways it's a thematic prequel to Linklater's films, complete with an amazing soundtrack. It's a beautiful film, although rather obscure, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories about romance in Europe.

Besides that, I wanted to ask you: What other movies of Richard Linklater have you seen? I just saw School of Rock (which is LOVE) and Tape (great as well but very...bitter, if I can use that word) I'd love to have all Linklater's films (especially Waking Life...I'm dying to see it) but I live in Uruguay and here that name is almost unknow >_<. Anyway, how about you?

Memorable Quotes from Before Sunset (2004)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jesse: In the months leading up to my wedding, I was thinking about you all the time. I mean, even on my way there; I'm in the car, a buddy of mine is driving me downtown and I'm staring out the window, and I think I see you, not far from the church, right? Folding up an umbrella and walking into a deli on the corner of 13th and Broadway. And I thought I was going crazy, but now I think it probably was you. Celine: I lived on 11th and Broadway. Jesse: You see?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Celine: [Celine's song] Let me sing you a waltz / Out of nowhere, out of my thoughts / Let me sing you a waltz / About this one night stand / You were, for me, that night / Everything I always dreamt of in life / But now you're gone / You are far gone / All the way to your island of rain / It was for you just a one night thing / But you were much more to me, just so you know / I don't care what they say / I know what you meant for me that day / I just want another try, I just want another night / Even if it doesn't seem quite right / You meant for me much more than anyone I've met before / One single night with you, little Jesse, is worth a thousand with anybody / I have no bitterness, my sweet / I'll never forget this one night thing / Even tomorrow in other arms, my heart will stay yours until I die / Let me sing you a waltz / Out of nowhere, out of my blues / Let me sing you a waltz / About this lovely one night stand

Celine: So, I want to try something. Jesse: What? Celine: [hugs him] I want to see if you stay together or if you dissolve into molecules. Jesse: How'm I doing? Celine: Still here. Jesse: Good, I like being here.

I posted these two quotes in my journal a few days ago, and I thought I'd post them here too, since they're two of my favorite little schpeals from the movies. And also, I love them because I feel like I can relate to them. :)
"So often in my life I've been with people, and shared beautiful moments like travelling, or staying up all night and watching the sunrise, and I knew those were special moments. But something was always wrong. I wished I'd been with someone else." - Selene from Before Sunrise
"I've always felt there was some kind of mystical chord in the universe. More recently, I've started to think that I don't have any permanent place here. You know, in eternity, or whatever. And the more I think of it, I know I can't go through life saying that this is no big deal. I mean, this is it! This is actually happening. What do you think is interesting? What do you think is funny? What do you think is important? You know? Every day is our last-" - Jesse from Before Sunset

did anyone else notice that in the beginning jesse is talking about his idea for a book and how the character would look at his high school sweetheart dancing on the top of her car to a pop song and how hes simultaniously in that moment and in the moment where his daughter is dancing on the table to the same pop song and how this makes him realise that "time is a lie" and hes simultaniously in two moments and at the end hes stairing at celene as shes dancing for him to a song? I think that was intentional and whats being said is that maybe jesse is both him at 23 falling in a real kind of love with celene in vienna and also jesse in his early 30s, still in love with this girl and realising that no time ever really went by for them. They still love eachother and are still exactly as comfortable with eachother as before and are still basically the same people. I dunno, I thought that was interesting.

Hi everybody!!! |
[29 Jun 2005|04:59pm] |
This is my first entry. I just found this community today, and I decided to join because I adore Before Sunset so much, it's kind of sick. I became completely obsessed with it since I watched on June 16th (if you're a fan you'll know what this date maens ;)). It affected me so much more than the first because they seem more guarded about how they felt. Like usually happens when you've been heartbroken. I love Celine so much, in special when she's start to ramble about the mess around the world. I'm passionate that way when I defend a point (although I don't do the thing with the fingers, jajaja) Anyway. I love the movies and I'm sure will enjoy being here.
ps:mmm... I read that someone posted before the soundtrack of the movie but the link has already expired. Can that someone (sorry I can't remember the name) repost it??? Pretty please????

Hi everyone,
I finally got around to seeing Before Sunrise and needless to say I really enjoyed it. I moved to Vienna this past January as a study abroad student and will be here until next May. Even before I left people were telling me to see this film just for the fact it's set in the city I would be moving to.
Once I got here I was asked by someone in the States if there really was an Alt & Neu in Vienna. At the time I had no idea what he was talking about, and he explained it was a shop in the movie. Weeks later I was bored, wandering around exploring and happened upon the very store.
Anyway, I've been here for 6 months and was only able to rent it tonight (my video store is small and only has one copy). I'll admit, though the location is what motivated me to see the movie, I would have loved it no matter what city it was set in. I simply think it's a great film. I'm tempted to run out tomorrow and rent Before Sunset. I'm afraid I'm hooked!
I suppose I didn't have anything too productive to say so I'll just leave it at this. Before Sunrise had so many great moments and it was fun to sit back and watch it all play out in the city I'm sitting currently living in. It gives me hope that something so interesting could happen to me. Ha! ;)

Hey! |
[24 Jun 2005|05:53pm] |
I'm looking for screencaps from Before Sunrise- I was thinking about it the other day and looking at quotes and sojdflisjdgj! IS IT a wonderful movie. I think I'm especially in love with Before Sunrise over Before Sunset (I saw the sequel first) because I'm younger now- closer to Jesse and Celine in their twenties- and I can identify a lot more. Critics say that Before Sunset is a lot more mature than Sunrise, and I completely agree. The love I've experienced in my life so far has been a lot closer to the relationship between Jesse and Celine in the first movie. It's more spontaneous, more about figuring about the ways of the world as (more theories) than the solid opinions of Jesse and especially Celine in Sunset. Sunrise is.....first epiphanies as opposed to Sunset's conclusions. God, you know a movie is great when it lets you discover things in YOUR life, no?

MILKSHAKE |
[01 Jun 2005|05:13pm] |
I love this poem from Before Sunrise.
Daydream, delusion, limousine, eyelash Oh baby with your pretty face Drop a tear in my wineglass Look at those big eyes See what you mean to me Sweet-cakes and milkshakes I'm delusion angel I'm fantasy parade I want you to know what I think Don't want you to guess anymore You have no idea where I came from We have no idea where we're going Latched in life Like branches in a river Flowing downstream Caught in the current I'll carry you You'll carry me That's how it could be Don't you know me? Don't you know me by now?
I rewatched these two movies the other when I should be revising.. And these lines really hit me.
Jesse: Why do we think that relationships are supposed to last forever anyway, and that anything less is a failure ?
Celine: But for some people, there are no real good-byes. I think if you have a meaningful experience with someone else, a true communication, they are with you forever in a way. We are all a part of each other in ways we'll never know.

i a) returned from a semester in paris 2 days ago and b) just joined the commmunity and wanted to introduce myself.
i saw before sunset about 3 blocks from shakespeare and company a few months ago, i had never seen before sunrise, but was compelled to see the first after seeing the second. and they are both love. the movie would have been wonderful even if i hadn't seen it in paris, but being in paris made it gorgeous and everything is filmed right around where i've spent the last few months living, studying...ahh, so now aside from my own memories, i can watch before sunset and be transported back in time. i love both movies and i'm happy this community was created.

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy to star in "Bathory" |
[16 May 2005|11:41pm] |
Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are in final talks to star in “Bathory,” which Bauer Martinez will finance, produce and distribute.
The Hollywood Reporter says Delpy will make her directorial debut on the picture, working from her own script about the legendary Elizabeth Bathory, who inspired many a vampire myth with sadistic rituals that included bathing in the blood of virgins.
Hawke and Delpy previously starred together in “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset.”
Read more here in a recent interview with Delpy.
